THE INTELR PRO/WLAN 3945ABG MINICARD RADIO BECOMES DISABLED

All please ensure that your techs are aware that there is a web post update for the Intel 3945 wireless card. This resolves the radio disable issue that could also look like an intermitted connection.

The Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG card's radio becomes disabled during use or changing a default setting within the MiniCard's Advanced Driver Prosperties. When this issue occurs, the radio can not be re-enabled via the FN-F2 keys or by the Intel Proset software. The radio will only become active again after the system is shutdown and rebooted.

This issue is resolved by an updated version of the Intel Proset software provided with the 3945ABG Network Connection Driver.

Dell is posting an older driver in the support web site.

try updating the driver to 10.5.1.57 and the software to 10.5.0.0.

also check if the antenna cables are also properly connected to the right connectors of the card. most systems having intermittent loss of connection are due to inverted antenna cable connection on the wlan. checking the antenna is only applicable to issues wherein the connection is intermittent but the wlan does not disable.
